Nikos Pocock — Managing Director, Africa Calling Safaris
Managing Director of Africa Calling Safaris and Chief Editor of Safari News.
Updated: 15 October 2026
Nikos Pocock is the Managing Director of Africa Calling Safaris, a Kenya-based safari operator specialising in tailor-made expeditions across East Africa. He has guided and managed safaris in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Rwanda since the early 2000s, accumulating a depth of field knowledge that shapes every itinerary the company designs.
Field Experience
Nikos holds professional guiding qualifications and is a member of the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association. His guiding specialisations include the Maasai Mara ecosystem, Amboseli National Park, Samburu National Reserve, and the mountain gorilla habitats of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda. He has led expeditions for wildlife photographers, conservation researchers, honeymoon couples, and multi-generational family groups, and brings the same attentiveness to each.
Beyond the vehicle, Nikos has spent significant time on foot in East Africa’s wilderness areas — a perspective that shifts how one interprets animal behaviour and landscape ecology in ways that purely vehicle-based guiding cannot replicate. He considers the slow morning hours, before the tourist traffic builds, to be when the Mara reveals itself most fully.
His Role at Safari News
All destination content, wildlife guides, and safari logistics articles published on Safari News are reviewed by Nikos before publication. His role is to ensure that the ecological and operational details we publish are accurate and grounded in direct observation rather than secondary research alone. Where he cites specific animal behaviour, population data, or seasonal patterns, those details come from years of field notes and conversations with the guides and researchers he has worked alongside.
Nikos is based in Nairobi and available to speak with prospective travellers about itinerary planning. You can reach Africa Calling Safaris at africacallingsafaris.com.
